Cloud Platform Developer Engineer (AWS CDK) @ Mutual of Omaha

Salary: $115,000 - 150,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for 5+ years of hands-on development experience with an object-oriented programming language, with TypeScript strongly preferred.
• We need experience in at least two of the following areas: Infrastructure as Code, containerization, databases, message or data streaming, and GitHub-based version control and automation.
• We prefer direct experience with AWS CDK and CloudFormation for infrastructure as code.
• We value experience building shared libraries, reusable constructs, or internal platform services used by other engineering teams.
• We want experience with distributed cloud platform configuration, deployment, and lifecycle automation.
• We require a working understanding of cloud security and compliance practices.
• We need experience automating and orchestrating complex cloud processes using Infrastructure as Code within a single cloud environment.
• We are looking for someone who supports diversity and inclusion, welcomes different viewpoints, and stays curious.
• You must be able to work remotely with reliable high-speed internet and be located in the United States or Puerto Rico.
• Prior platform engineering or cloud enablement experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with software engineering best practices such as design patterns, unit testing, code reviews, and documentation is preferred.
• Strong communication skills with both technical and nontechnical audiences are preferred.
• Interest in AI and emerging technologies is highly valued.
• Prior experience with cloud governance or enablement initiatives is a plus.
• Strong proficiency in software engineering principles and practices is preferred.

Responsibilities:

• We write production-ready TypeScript using AWS CDK to design, build, test, and maintain infrastructure as code for public cloud environments.
• We develop and support shared construct libraries and platform services used by engineering teams across our department.
• We act as the cloud subject matter experts, guiding development teams with hands-on troubleshooting and technical support.
• We configure and manage common cloud services in production settings.
• We collaborate across teams to identify delivery bottlenecks and improve our platform capabilities.
• We apply software engineering practices such as code reviews, unit testing, design patterns, and clean architecture to infrastructure code.
• We partner with application developers to solve problems at the code level and reduce cloud complexity.
• We continually evaluate emerging technologies, including AI, to evolve our platform.
