Job Description
We are a premier educational services and data verification organization hiring a remote-first Solutions Architect for a permanent, direct-hire role focused on a major application modernization effort. In this position, you will lead the re-engineering and re-platforming of critical systems across multiple business units while designing resilient, loosely coupled cloud-native architectures using modern patterns and open-source tools. We offer a competitive salary range and a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with additional insurance and retirement offerings based on eligibility. Our role is telecommute-based with the flexibility to work remotely from approved locations, and we support a professional, collaborative environment with a standard 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule.
- We require a bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline; equivalent military or professional experience may be considered.
- We require 10+ years of software development experience in mid- to large-scale enterprise environments, with demonstrated technical leadership.
- We require 5+ years of experience shaping enterprise current-state and future-state architectures, technology roadmaps, and integration strategies.
- We require deep, hands-on expertise with AWS cloud services across compute, integration, data, DevSecOps, and observability.
- We require extensive experience designing microservices, event-driven platforms, API-led integrations, and cloud-native resilience patterns.
- We require strong command of container orchestration patterns using Kubernetes, EKS, and ECS/Fargate, including deployment, scaling, and service communication.
- We require the ability to model detailed component interactions, logical and physical data flows, and system integration diagrams.
- We require residence in and remote-work authorization from one of our approved jurisdictions, with the ability to travel to our Herndon, VA headquarters as needed.
- We require U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent authorization to work full-time in the United States without present or future sponsorship.
- We require availability for after-hours maintenance windows and on-call support when needed.
- We prefer a masters degree in a technical field.
- We prefer an active AWS Certified Solutions Architect credential at the Associate or Professional level.
- We prefer 5 to 10 years of hands-on development experience with Java, Spring Boot, Python, or Angular.
- We prefer exposure to big data environments, including EMR, data lakes, lakehouses, and SQL/NoSQL databases such as RDS Aurora PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.
- We value strong technical skills in AWS architecture, microservices design, container orchestration, event-driven architecture, API Gateway, IAM/secrets management/KMS, network security, CloudWatch, and CI/CD DevSecOps.
- We value soft skills such as technical negotiation, stakeholder influence, matrixed collaboration, complex problem solving, analytical decision making, and clear communication.
- We ask you to design end-to-end application architectures that define component relationships, data movement, scaling approaches, and detailed failure handling.
- We ask you to develop technology roadmaps, platform standards, and reference architectures for containerized cloud-native deployments.
- We ask you to create hands-on architectural solutions using AWS services, open-source technologies, and SaaS integrations.
- We ask you to work closely with engineering, security infrastructure, and leadership teams to build technical validations, prototypes, and proofs of concept.
- We ask you to promote security by design through the implementation of OAuth 2.0, SAML, OIDC, and RBAC to support least-privilege access across distributed systems.
- We ask you to architect high-availability and disaster recovery solutions while ensuring alignment with OWASP and accessibility standards.
- We ask you to produce thorough design documentation, including logical, physical, and functional process flow diagrams, to support delivery constraints.
- We ask you to present architecture proposals to our governance board and help reduce delivery risks.
- We ask you to support maintenance window deployments and provide on-call or after-hours technical assistance when required.
