Senior Software Infrastructure Engineer

We are RTX, an Aerospace and Defense company serving commercial, military, and government customers worldwide through our businesses Collins Aerospace Systems, Pratt & Whitney, and Raytheon. Our Satellite Ground Systems team is seeking a Software Infrastructure Engineer to support mission-critical work in an onsite role based in State College, PA, with additional onsite options in Ft. Meade, MD, and Aurora, CO. The salary range for this position is 86,800 USD to 165,200 USD, depending on experience, location, education, and skills.

- We require an active and transferable U.S. government-issued TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance before your start date, with adjudication completed within the last three years.
- We require U.S. citizenship, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- We typically look for a STEM degree and at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- We need experience in IT infrastructure and/or software engineering.
- We need hands-on experience with the Linux platform.
- We need development experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- We need scripting experience with Python, Bash, and Groovy.
- We require a CompTIA Security+ certification, or the ability to earn it within 3 months.
- We prefer experience with VMware and AWS.
- We prefer software development experience in Java, including unit testing and integration testing.
- We value knowledge of satellite ground systems, space operations, or a related domain.
- We prefer experience with networking, distributed systems, and cloud computing technologies.
- We prefer experience with Puppet.
- We value familiarity with secure coding practices, especially in defense or aerospace environments.
- We prefer experience with DevOps tools such as Terraform, Packer, Jenkins, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and Ansible.
- We prefer a degree in Computer Engineering or Information Technology.
- We highly prefer experience with satellite communications systems and protocols.

- We design, implement, and maintain the software infrastructure that supports satellite ground system operations and data handling.
- We collaborate closely with systems engineers, hardware designers, and software engineers to deliver dependable, high-performance solutions.
- We monitor system health, analyze performance, and resolve infrastructure issues.
- We work in an agile DevOps environment alongside multiple engineering disciplines.
- We develop and maintain technical documentation, including design documents, user guides, and system administration manuals.
- We mentor and support engineers who need infrastructure-related assistance.
- We define, build, and prototype software scripts, virtualization setups, and cloud environments.
- We implement and administer continuous delivery systems and related practices.
- We continuously improve the software infrastructure by identifying and applying enhancements and optimizations.
- We provide infrastructure input and expertise for future proposal and bid activities.
