Cloud FinOps Engineer

We are collaborating with hackajob and Verisk to find an exceptional Cloud FinOps Engineer to join a large, dynamic, and innovative environment. In this role, we offer the opportunity to learn from experienced team members while building cloud infrastructure and FinOps expertise. You will support our customers through cloud cost optimisation initiatives and develop your technical capabilities with guidance from senior engineers, contributing to a self-service environment for better cloud cost transparency across AWS and Azure.

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- 2–5 years of experience in cloud infrastructure or systems support
- Basic knowledge of CPU, memory, and performance metrics
- SQL skills for parsing datasets from CUR files
- Interest in AI and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn their application to cloud optimization
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities
- Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges
- AWS cloud experience is preferred
- AWS or cloud computing certifications, such as AWS Cloud Practitioner, are preferred
- Experience with Python or another programming language is preferred

- Assist in identifying cloud cost optimization opportunities under senior guidance
- Support cloud cost management and optimisation initiatives
- Learn and help apply existing FinOps practices across AWS and Azure
- Contribute to the development of FinOps practices and broader team initiatives
- Help build a self-service environment that improves cloud cost transparency
- Research AWS services to uncover potential savings opportunities
- Support rightsizing, reserved instances, and workload scheduling initiatives
- Participate in architecture reviews with a focus on cloud best practices
- Provide cloud cost information to engineering, product, and finance teams under senior engineer direction
- Develop working knowledge of cloud pricing models and FinOps best practices
- Use the AWS CLI to retrieve metadata that supports cost transparency
- Support analysis of the Kubex product and share actionable insights
- Assist in designing processes that improve cost transparency across AWS and Azure
- Help create and maintain KPIs to measure cost optimisation
- Support the AWS Cost and Usage Report platform in Athena and PowerBI
- Build understanding of the financial side of FinOps to support a cross-functional approach
- Assist with cloud cost estimation for migrations
- Support cloud financial reporting and cost optimisation presentations
