Job Description
We are hiring a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer for a hands-on generalist role focused on operating, maintaining, and improving our AWS environment with an emphasis on security, reliability, and performance. Our cloud footprint includes roughly 30 EC2 instances and related services, and our core network runs in Azure, so multi-cloud experience is valuable. This is a remote full-time position with a competitive salary range of $110,000 to $130,000 per year and a benefits package that includes 401(k), 401(k) matching, dental, health, vision, life insurance, HSA, paid time off, employee discount, and professional development assistance.
- 3+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, or systems engineering
- 2+ years of hands-on experience supporting production workloads in AWS
- Practical Linux administration experience, including troubleshooting, performance tuning, and security hardening
- Experience supporting or implementing disaster recovery solutions in cloud environments
- Strong cloud networking background, including site-to-site VPN configuration
- Familiarity with cloud security best practices for infrastructure
- General understanding of compliance frameworks such as PCI DSS in cloud environments
- Experience supporting highly available and resilient AWS environments
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
- Self-directed, hands-on approach with comfort handling a broad range of infrastructure responsibilities
- Azure experience, especially in infrastructure and networking, is a strong plus
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation is preferred
- Familiarity with container technologies such as ECS and Docker is preferred
- Experience working in regulated or security-sensitive environments is preferred
- Only candidates residing in Chicago, Texas, Florida, Indiana, or Georgia will be considered
- Build, maintain, and support secure, scalable AWS infrastructure aligned with best practices
- Manage AWS networking, including VPCs, routing, security groups, and segmentation
- Maintain connectivity between AWS and our Azure-based core network
- Support highly available systems across AWS services and availability zones
- Support containerized workloads using ECS and Docker
- Administer, secure, and troubleshoot Linux-based systems to preserve stability and performance
- Assist with infrastructure automation and operational improvements
- Implement and maintain disaster recovery strategies for critical systems and services
- Support backup, replication, and recovery processes to meet business and compliance needs
- Participate in disaster recovery testing and failover exercises
- Maintain documentation, runbooks, and recovery procedures for operational and audit readiness
- Apply security best practices to our AWS infrastructure in support of PCI DSS and internal security standards
- Configure infrastructure-level controls such as IAM, security groups, certificates, and secrets management
- Help remediate infrastructure-related findings identified by security tools such as GuardDuty
- Ensure infrastructure and platform logs are forwarded to centralized logging and SIEM platforms
- Support security and compliance teams during assessments and remediation efforts by providing infrastructure evidence
- Implement and maintain monitoring and logging using CloudWatch
- Ensure logs are retained and protected to meet operational, security, and compliance requirements
- Use AWS Systems Manager for patching, secure server access, and configuration management
- Troubleshoot AWS, Linux, security, and availability issues
- Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency while preserving security, performance, and availability
- Work with DBAs to support RDS and Aurora, including backups, encryption, patching, recovery testing, and performance support
- Administer S3 for secure object storage using proper access controls and lifecycle policies
- Support EFS for shared file storage with attention to security, availability, and performance
- Collaborate closely with application, database, and security teams to support deployments and infrastructure improvements
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing across the team
